Ashcroft Master Builder Art Gala
This past Wednesday I was able to participate in my first Art Gala. It was put on by a local real estate and home building company called Ashcroft Master Builder Ltd. in Lethbridge, Alberta. It was held in their showroom with about 17 artists showcasing their work. There were other acrylic, oil, watercolor, and pastel artists, as well as photographers, and a few other multimedia artists. There was wine, cheese, fruit, and meat platters. As well as two live musicians playing the piano and violin. The ambiance was perfect.
It was a pleasure to be able to meet and talk with other local artists. I loved hearing about how they go about a painting to see the similarities and differences with how I do it. I also loved seeing all of the different styles that people have. Every artist brings something different to the table which shows in their paintings. Seeing all of these other talented artists’ work inspired me to continue in my own art journey.
I learned a few things that will be useful for my next art gala or show.
- Bring a tablecloth for your table. Although the paintings will cover most of the table up, a tablecloth with cover any blemishes on the table as well hide the ground under the table where you can then keep your other supplies out of sight.
- Many people had laptops or tablets with a slideshow of their work if it was not all at the show. I thought this was a great idea especially to showcase pieces you may have already sold.
- Having a variety of work makes your table interesting. I included paintings as small as 2.5×2.5 to as large as 16×40. This kept the viewers interested by having a variety of works. It also gives you a good variety in prices which will make your table more appealing to more customers.
Those are just a few of the things I learned from this show.
Here are a couple photos of my table:
