What is Artmajeur?

Artmajeur is an online marketplace where artists can sell their work to buyers from across the globe.

It is for both professional and amateur artists alike.

What Can I Sell on Artmajeur?

Artmajeur lets artists sell a variety of works including:

  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • Photography
  • Digital Arts
  • Printmaking
  • Design
  • Drawing
  • Collages
  • Textile Art

This is fantastic to have such a variety on one site. I love that Artmajeur allows the selling of so many types of art.

From your selected choice of art, you can then sell it in the following ways:

  • The Original
  • Print Reproductions
  • Digital Licensing

Being able to sell more than just your originals is a huge plus to Artmajeur. I feel like for websites like this to be able to compete they need to have a solid print-on-demand service that Artmajeur does. Digital licensing is a feature that not every website has either so it adds a nice touch. I will talk about the print-on-demand and the digital licensing more later in this article.

How Do I Sell On Artmajeur?

How Much Does It Cost To Sell On Artmajeur and what are the commission fees?

Artmajeur has both a free and a subscription account.

Here are two charts explaining what each one features:

Basic Plan:

The Basic Plan is free which is a huge plus for anyone like me who doesn’t like to spend money to advertise/sell my art. It still allows you to sell prints of your art and digital licenses.

The commission fee on a basic plan is 20% + VAT if applicable. 20% isn’t too bad of a commission for a free account. Compared to Artfinder at 40%, 20% doesn’t seem too bad. But also compared to ArtPal at 0%, 20% seems high. All in all, 20% is about the middle of the road and can easily be swallowed for the service and opportunity you are getting by using this site.

The Basic Plan recently changed. Before, you were only allowed to have 10 artworks posted if you had the basic plan. Now, however, you can have unlimited which made Artmajeur go way up in my books in terms of being worth it for all artists to check out. When I was only limited to 10 pieces of art, I lost interest quickly as I filled up that quota very fast. You can see basic statistics and still have access to a lot of features. Even just signing up for the basic plan is well worth it.

Platinum Plan:

The Platinum Plan costs $6.25 CAD a month. You get bonus features such as widgets that allow you to sell straight from Facebook and Instagram, a better chance of being seen on Artmajeur’s website, reduced commission fees, and more.

The commission fee for platinum members is 15% + VAT if applicable. A 5% drop from the Basic Plan isn’t that much when you are now paying a monthly subscription fee. However, if you are selling a piece of art a month, or even once every two months and you feel it is because you are a platinum member, then that extra money you receive, because you are paying that monthly fee, is easily covered. In the end, I don’t think $6.25 a month is a high price for a subscription, however, just weigh your sales vs. expenditures to see if it is worth it for you personally.

How and When Do I Get Paid?

You can get paid either through PayPal or a Bank Transfer.

For PayPal, all you need is your PayPal email address.

For a Bank Transfer, you will need all the information about your account and bank information. It is more complicated but I know people who don’t like using PayPal so it is nice to have a different option.

You will get paid 15 days after your art has arrived to the customer as there is a 14-day return policy so you are paid after that is over. For prints and digital licensing, once you have accumulated at least 10 euros worth of profit, you can request a payout.

How Do I Upload My Artwork To My Shop?

You can watch the video at this time to get the full visual explanation of the process.

Simply stated, once you have logged in, click the “+Add” button in the top right-hand corner to start the process. By clicking the “+Add” button you are given the option to upload new artwork, gallery, or add a news post to your profile.

What Is Their Watermark Protection?

One feature I really like about Artmajeur is that they take measures to protect the images of your art that you upload. This makes it harder for people to download images of your art to steal.

There are three types of watermarks you can use:

What is the Print-On-Demand Service and How Do I Edit My Profits?

The Print-On-Demand service used by Artmajeur allows you to sell reproductions of your art. Artmajeur takes care of the printing, packaging, and shipping so all you have to do is sit back and relax.

The size of prints you can make depends on the size/quality of the file you upload to your gallery. The higher the quality, the larger prints you can offer.

Below is a chart showing the size of print vs the size of the file required for that print.

The prints come in a variety of styles. They include:

  • Fine Art Paper Print – Glossy or Matte Finish
  • Fine Art Prints Laminated Into Metal With or Without A Float Frame
  • Subligraphie Print On Metal With or Without Support Frame
  • Fine Art Prints On Canvas
  • Framed Fine Art Prints

Feel free to read more about each of these prints here: https://www.artmajeur.com/en/print-shop

To edit your profits for the prints, go to the “Sales” tab on your account dashboard then click on “Art Prints”. Or watch me navigate there here in the video:

Overall I think the print-on-demand service is valuable to the artists selling on Artmajeur. It is straight forward and has multiple types of prints available. This is a big plus for Artmajeur.

What Is Digital Licensing?

Digital Licensing allows people and companies to almost rent your art to be used on their webpages, in ads and media, and in commercials.

Check out the following chart to see what is included in each type of digital license:

You decide the royalty money you receive from these sales.

This is a type of product that not all art gallery websites offer so the fact that Artmajeur has this makes them a step above the rest.

What Does Artmajeur Offer To Market My Art?

Artmajeur offers multiple promotions to market your artwork.

1. On their promotional zones throughout the website

– For internal pages, it is $1.53 CAD a day

– For the homepage and internal pages, it is $9.20 CAD a day

2. Have them post your art on their Facebook page

– For $25 CAD a post you can pick the day you want your art to be posted

3. Have your art included in their print and digital magazine

– It is a quarterly magazine

– Options start at $68.98 CAD

Every website has different promotion opportunities. I think these options are alright but are nothing special. Other websites like this offer similar promotions for a cheaper price. I have not used any of these promotions so I can not speak to if they can convert more viewers into buyers.

What Is Their Affiliate Program?

Through the Artmajeur affiliate program, you can earn extra cash. Each member has a unique link to share. For every person you refer who buys a membership, you receive $15.33 CAD.

Compared to other websites this has its positives and negatives.

The positive is that they give you cash. Other websites, such as Artfinder, only give you credit to use on their website. In my opinion, that’s not very classy.

The negative is that it is only for people who purchase memberships. On other websites, like ArtPal, you can share other artist’s work and receive commission pay if they make a sale from your link you shared.

Overall, it’s good that they have an affiliate program, but it isn’t the best one out there.

Here is my link if you would like to use it to start a gallery: https://www.artmajeur.com/?afid=834622

What is the News Section?

In the news section, you can post updates about what you are doing. If you click the “+Add” button at the top you can post text, images, videos, or add events. It gives you the chance to post things such as your works in progress, your studio space, etc.

I think this is an awesome feature. This allows viewers and potential customers to connect with you on more than just a storefront level. I believe that bringing a personal touch and building relationships will lead to more sales and more returning customers. It puts the artist back into the art.

What Is Their “Pro Website”?

Artmajeur offers the capability to build your own website through them. You can easily link it to your galleries on Artmajeur for a seamless connection.

It costs €10.95 a month.

To get all the info on this feature, go to this time in the video above or follow this link:

I think offering to help artists build and manage their own websites is a good feature. Many artists just like to create and may need help. However, for those of you who are a little more tech-savvy, there are definitely cheaper options. I purchased my domain name and hosting on a promotional price from Bluehost for $125 CAD for 3 years. You don’t need to be a mathematician to know that this is way cheaper than €10.95 a month.

If you are looking to start your own website, I offer services of building and managing it for you. See all that information here: https://www.briansloanartist.com/services/website-building/

What Is The “Help Center”?

At the bottom of the webpage, there is a “Help Center” link that is full of questions and answers to help you navigate and succeed on Artmajeur.

What Do I Think Of Artmajeur?

Overall I think Artmajeur is a good website to sell your art on if you are just beginning to get your name out there or are even in that intermediate phase. The website is pretty easy to use and it has a lot of useful features. It is nice to be able to sell more than just original artworks and their digital licensing feature is something not every website has.

Their commission fee is a little high at 20% but not bad compared to some others. If you end up selling a lot, it would definitely be worth it to subscribe so they only take a 15% commission instead.

I like how they take measures to protect your art by using both invisible and visible watermarks.

I give Artmajeur a thumbs up if you are looking to sell your art online!
