Product Review – TRUArt Stage 2 Single Pen Professional Wood Burning Detailer

In the video above I give a full review of the product by showing everything that comes with it, how it works, and what I have done with it!

First Impressions:

The TRUArt Stage 2 Single Pen Professional Woodburning Detailer was on sale for $154 USD but is regularly $200 USD. This is about 5 times the price of the wood-burning tool I was using before but I will just say now, it was well worth the investment.

When I first opened up the box I got in the mail I was immediately impressed with the case that the TRUArt Wood Burning Kit came in. Very professional and sturdy. Upon opening the case and seeing all of the accessories that came with it made me even more impressed.

The kit came with the following:

-Pliers

-Diamond Files

-Tweezers

-Cleaning Brush

-40 Tips for the Pen in a metal box

-User’s manual

-Stand for the Pen

-The Pen

-Heating Box

Everything was of great quality. Having a set of pliers in there and cleaning tool was a nice extra touch because then I didn’t have to go digging in the toolbox to find a pair I could use to loosen and tighten on the tips.

Thoughts After First Use:

The pen both heats up and cools down amazingly fast. It gets red hot in about 10 seconds and cools down in about the same amount of time. The temperature control dial is an awesome feature and gives me a lot more control as an artist.

I used it for the first time on a piece of pine. Since the tip gets so hot, I didn’t even have to press on the wood for it to burn in. I experimented with a few tips to find what I liked.

Before getting this wood burning kit, I was using one I had purchased at the hardware store. It was by the company Weller and was only a 25-watt iron. This one is 60. With the old one, I would have to press down for it to burn deeper and faster which made my hand very cramped after using it. The heat-up time on the old one was also way worse. It would take at least 5 minutes to fully warm-up and then minutes to cool down.

Another thing I liked about the new one is that the handle of the pen doesn’t get hot. With my old one, I would have to wear a glove because of the handle getting too hot to hold barehanded.

On the mixed media pieces I have been working on in the last few months, it would usually take 3-4 hours to burn in all of the lines. However, with the new tool, it has taken 1 hour on one project and 1.5 hours on another. And afterward, my hand didn’t hurt!

Final Thoughts:

Though the price isn’t low, this is a 5-star, 10/10 product that I would recommend to anyone who is serious about wood burning. I’m glad I used a hobby tool when I started to see if I liked it, but now that I am more serious about it, the investment was well worth it.
